“One Regular Almond Milk Mocha To Go Please”

Expressive Form: Sculpture

Artist’s Statement

Coffee is transformative. After just one sip of her regular almond milk mocha, my sister is ready to begin her day. Like millions of other coffee lovers, each with their own particular order, they claim they cannot function without it. It is the world’s social lubricant, an elixir of life that brings us together.

Using the method of slip casting, the humble coffee cup inspired the forms used in this piece. Their varied heights create the ups and downs reminiscent of the body’s process of craving and satiation when it needs and then gets that caffeine hit. It’s a cyclical process of addiction to that energy.
