“The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl”
Expressive Form: Ceramics
Artist’s Statement
This ceramic series reimagines the ancient Chinese myth of The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, a timeless love story between a mortal and a celestial being. Banished by the Mother King, the lovers are divided by the Milky Way, destined to reunite only once a year when magpies form a bridge across the sky. Through hand-built forms and handwritten calligraphy, the work explores enduring themes of longing, sacrifice, and the strength of connection. Referencing the Qixi Festival, still celebrated today on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month, the series honours the hope of reunion in the face of distance and fate.
