“Sound Reducing Wall Insert Unit“

Artist’s Statement

For my Design and Technology major project, I decided to address a long-standing concern within my household. My room, originally built as a sunroom off the main bedroom, is connected by a glass doorway that compromises space, privacy, and noise insulation between the two rooms. To solve these issues, I propose to design and construct a custom bookshelf that fits perfectly into the dimensions of this doorway. This bookshelf will function as a wall divider, providing privacy and sound insulation. 

In addition to its functional purpose, the divider will serve as a central piece of my major work, incorporating Japanese design elements that reflect simplicity and elegance. By integrating these aesthetic aspects, I aim to create a piece that solves a practical problem and enhances the overall ambience of the space. This project will allow me to showcase and further develop my design and craftsmanship skills, focusing on achieving both functionality and beauty.
