“Outdoor Barbeque Cabinet“

Artist’s Statement

For my Major Design Project (MDP), I aim to design and construct a functional outdoor barbeque cabinet that will complement the existing barbeque in my backyard. The functionality of this design is paramount, with a focus on portability and sufficient storage space to accommodate South African barbeque essentials, including kitchen utensils, oil bottles, and various preparation dishes. The cabinet will feature a top preparation area, providing convenient space for equipment and dishes during barbeque sessions. 

In addition to functionality, the cabinet’s design must seamlessly blend with its surroundings, featuring modern, clean lines that enhance the outdoor space. By incorporating a mix of natural and man-made materials, the cabinet will appeal to a broad audience while maintaining aesthetic harmony with the environment. Durability is crucial, especially considering Australia’s diverse weather conditions; therefore, I will source high-quality, resilient materials suitable for outdoor use. 

Finally, the cabinet will be ergonomically designed to accommodate tall adults, like my Dad, ensuring it meets my family’s and extended family’s needs during gatherings throughout the year. This project reflects my commitment to creating a versatile, durable and visually appealing outdoor furniture piece that enhances our barbeque experience.
